Catherine K S is taking a break...in New Zealand

You may have noticed I haven't updated the news on the website for a while or performed for the past couple of months. This is because I have been taking a break and considering exactly what my next move is. And I have decided that I am going to spend some time in New Zealand, something I've wanted to do for years.

As some of you know I have struggled with M.E over the years - I'd get "better", but would have a relapse, and in truth, despite what I have written here before (didn't think plastering it up here looked good for business!), I never regained my full health which has made it very difficult to work as a singer/songwriter with it being a profession that is so energy demanding. But I feel I can say this now as I'm the closest I have ever come to getting my health back. This is largely because I have gone over to a predominantly raw food diet that consists mainly of fruit and vegetables - and also taking glandulars (which I would like to come off soon!). There is also a little technique I've made up for myself which seems to have helped too, which I'll post up here later if I'm right about it working! My plan is to take a real break from performing and work on regaining my full health, and just work on recording the album. I've said this before, but then would find myself sneaking out to perform or taking on new projects for others or myself and putting myself back! I have wanted to live in New Zealand for so many years and I feel going there will help me achieve all these things - being in a place you want to be has to be a good start! I'm scared of going, but I won't know unless I go...

Now, this also leads me to a question that so many of you lovely people have been asking me, "When is the next album coming out?". I feel I just can't give a date anymore as it keeps being put back - all I can say at the moment is that there will be another album and I will let you know when it is done via the mailing list and on the website! In fact, I now have enough material for another three albums!

So I haven't stopped making music, I'm just having a break from performing, probably for around a year. I am planning to come back to tour in the UK so will also let you know when I'm back in the country. In the meantime, I'd like to give an enormous, heartfelt thank you to all of you who have been so supportive to me with your comments, your words of encouragement and wisdom, coming to my gigs and buying my music. I'm at my happiest when I'm making music and being able to give it you.

And in case anyone's interested about my raw food diet - it's roughly 6lb (2.72kg) of fruit, 1lb (450g) of greens and 1oz(25g) of nuts a day. It might sound a bit drastic, but it has worked! I roughly apply Doug Graham's 80/10/10 diet principles and also those of Victoria Boutenko's "Green for Life" (That means a very large fruit and green smoothie for one meal!) I still eat some cooked food as well. But most importantly, I listen to me and what my body is telling me... and that, really has made the difference. Lots of love to you all and I will keep you updated!

Played at Cambridge Folk Festival 2008
Well I managed to get to play at Cambridge Folk Festival in the Club Tent again - really big crowd out there this year - the rain works wonders for filling a tent! Anyway the festival was great and it was great to catch up with people. Feel I played better last year, but that's probably just a personal feeling. (Last updated 8 August 2008)

Supporting BENJI KIRKPATRICK, SETH LAKEMAN and STU HANNA at The Bun Shop

How lucky did I feel getting to support Benji Kirkpatrick (rising star on the folk scene, one third of Faustus and founding member of "Bellow Head") with, Seth Lakeman (enough said!) and Stu Hanna (from Megson)! This really was such an enjoyable evening, the little venue was packed, so the atmosphere was literally palpable! I think everybody throroughly enjoyed themselves, and certainly enjoyed the sets from all the acts, especially and obviously the headliners. Really entertaining, great songs and great playing, they were a joy to watch. So I made sure I bought his CD, " Boomerang ", which I'm thoroughly enjoying and can recommend. You can have a listen at myspace.com/benjikirkpatrick. My partner thought it was one of my best performances - even though I was not well. (I would beg to differ, but then I wasn't watching!). So all in all a great evening - such a lovely crowd there, as are the people who run it. You've probably guessed I really like playing at the Bun Shop! (Last updated 2 April 2008)

HOORAY MYSPACE IS WORKING AGAIN!

After trying various measures to put the problem right, it seems for reasons of incompatibility, my computer didn't like myspace's new layout or "new skin " option, which myspace automatically displayed when they introduced it. It's now been changed back to "Classic View " , and touch wood it's all working fine and dandy now.(Last updated 23 January 2008)

PROBLEM WITH MYSPACE ACCOUNT

If you've arrived here via myspace, I am one of the unfortunate many who are having problems with accessing their home page (check the status updates with myspace if you're having the same problem). What it means is that I can login, but as soon as I have done so I get an error and can't update a sausage until they've fixed the problem (and it's been since 11 October - grrrr)! So if it's starting to all look a bit Groundhog Day after a while, you know why! Good news is the new tracks are up there though! (23 October 2007)

NEW TRACKS ON MYSPACE NOW! I have just uploaded three new tracks to myspace.com/catherineks. These songs are rough versions, but as I wrote below I feel there is a real energy about them and I've kind to grown to like them! But I will still be doing some polishing and adding before this little lot make it on the final album. (Last updated 18 October 2007)

Finally! A taste of some tracks from the new album!

I'm about to mix and upload some tracks that will be on the forthcoming album. So if you've keen for a listen, check back here in about a week's time to listen to them on myspace.com/catherineks. These are in rough demo form, but to be honest they seem to have a real energy about them that only seems to occur when you leave the metronome off whilst recording and play standing up as if playing to a live audience, that I may well just end up tweaking these! In the past I would always strive for time perfection, but now I really think that passion, love and energy coming through the music is far more important that perfection per se, and most of all, more enjoyable. Hope you can hear the difference too.(4 October 2007)

Thank you for being such a wonderful audience...

Gig at the Bun Shop, Cambridge

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the people who came and supported me and the other brilliant performers at the The Bun Shop on Monday. You were one of the loveliest and enthusiastic audiences I have played to in a small setting, and it was lovely to see such happy, smiley faces around the room! In fact just recently, I feel like everytime I have played the audience just seems to get nicer and nicer and more enthusiastic than before. Well that's a win/win thing for us all then! So thank you again, you were all a joy to play for, and I enjoyed it as much as you.(28 September 2007)4 OC

Also, I didn't get the chance to add people to my mailing list this time, so if you want to keep up to date on what I'm doing/eating/playing next etc etc, then please do join here on the website.

Catherine K S Plays at Cambridge Folk Festival

I played at the Club Tent at BBC Radio 2 Cambridge Folk Festival at the weekend. It was a fantastic venue to play and I and (thankfully!) the audience really enjoyed it. I played new songs from the forthcoming album. Again I'd just like to say a big thank you for the overwhelming response I got from all those people who met me afterwards at the back of the club tent. The term I usually hear the most about my music is "quirky". This weekend it was "blown away"! It was a real joy to see such veritable enthusiasm. And thanks to Pete who said I topped Seasick Steve - that's a real compliment! (1 August 2007)

Just to say A BIG THANKS...
...to all of you who gave me such enthusiastic support at the Henfield Festival of Arts and all your lovely comments!

Hope you all enjoy the CDs - feel free to email me with any feedback/questions! (17 June 2007)

Catherine K S on BBC South Live (12 December 2004)

Catherine took the panel by storm when her track was played last week on the South Live Demo panel. Three music industry experts rate or slate a minute and half's worth of three demos each week. They gave her one of their best ever scores! So she'll be on the South Live show on 19 December talking to Phil Jackson about her music and her future plans and where they will play the winning track from her new album "The Big Dipper".

Catherine K S is at Churchill Square Shopping Centre, Brighton 13-24 December 2004 promoting her new album. Look out for her on hand-painted clock stall! (just outside Millies' Cookies near the West Mall Entrance). Or to order it from this website click here

The New Album "The Big Dipper" is finally released! (12 December 2004)

This album was supposed to be released last year, but due to a relapse of M.E. which lasted for around a year - it just didn't happen. However, Catherine's determination kicked in and she was determined to have the album done for this year. This actually meant the whole album was recorded in 8 weeks. She is now much better, still having to be careful, and plans two releases next year. One is a new album of her own and she has also been asked to write the music for a meditation CD with her sister Heather. Heather started out as a nanny, relexologist, occupational therapist, back into nannying and reflexology and now has added reiki to her treasure chest of healing and plans to train in additional therapies later next year. Says Catherine, "I'm actually really excited about doing both albums. I want to make my next album really different, and I've never done any meditation music before but it really appeals to me, although I think it might be initially somewhat challenging as I've never done anything like it. In fact I don't know if I'll be any good at it - hope I will, otherwise Hev's voice is going to sound a bit bare with no musical decoration!"

Catherine K S wins " Favourite Solo Artist " at the Brighton Music Awards!! (4 November 2003)

It's official! Catherine K S has been voted Brighton's Favourite Solo Artist by Brighton's Music Loving Public This is the first year that the Brighton Music Awards has been held which was organised by Brighton Underground in association with Radio One during the One Live week at Brighton.

Catherine, is stunned and ecstatic with the award, particularly as the awards were made entirely on public votes. The public could vote at venues, in record shops, text their vote or vote online at the Brighton Underground website. Dan from Brighton Underground, said, " There must be a lot of people out there who like her for her to have won such an award. " Catherine says, " I had no idea of the impact I was having! But I guess it’s the " Passion not Fashion " Album that motivated people to vote. I'd just like to say such a big thank you to all those who voted for me - it really means a lot to me " The high profile event was held on Saturday 1 November at the Toad at the Picture House, with awards presented by a whole host of well-known personalities from the music industry including: Radio 1 DJ Chris Coco, Jazzbop's Russ Dewbury, Southern Counties' Phil Jackson, Quantic Soul Orchestra's Russ Porter and KLF's Jimmy Cauty. The evening was hosted by comedian Guy Venables and a Marilyn Monroe lookalike!

What's Catherine up to at the mo? (August 12 2003)
